What this course is

This online course will prepare you to pass BYUH Webmaster Certification exam. This course is also available in a classroom setting. Seminars are usually offered every semester. Schedules are posted through the listserv .

As you learn to use the BYUH Web standards for your pages, you will benefit by knowing that your pages are available to a vast audience, that users will be able to get the information you have to offer, and that your pages are consistent with other university Web pages. As a result, the Web audience will be able to get the information they need, and the professional image of the university will be enhanced.

This course covers four areas:

  1. General Standards
  2. Navigation & Accessiblity
  3. Page Design
  4. Content


What this course is NOT

This course won't teach you how to use Dreamweaver, or Photoshop, or Flash. It will teach you the BYUH Web standards, which will guide you as you use those tools to build Web pages.

You should already have the following skills before taking this course:

  1. Internet and computer proficiency
  2. Basic knowledge of building Web pages and graphic design
  3. Proficient in English and computer terms

Course Goals

Using tools given through the BYUH Webmasters online community, campus Webmasters will choose to develop Web pages and applications that adhere to the university's established Web policies and standards.

The goal of this instruction is to have Webmasters learn proper Web design and university rules, and then use those rules in their own design.

Course Objectives

  1. List the university's Web policies and standards
  2. Follow the university's Web policies and standards to create Web pages
  3. Choose to adhere to the policies when designing Web pages


Syllabus

This course is self-paced, meaning there are no due dates. You should develop your own schedule, and devote a certain amount of time each day to work on it until you are done.
